About Me
I have extensive classroom teaching experience, including several years as an inclusion teacher working closely with the Special Education department, as well as experience teaching math in an MYP program. I also have numerous professional development hours in English as a second language (ESL). Additionally, I served as the Gifted and Talented district coordinator (K-12); a position that provided me administrative experience including budget management. My work at international schools in South Korea and Myanmar has given me experience working with a diversified student population.
My work in gifted education has taught me the value of teaching critical and creative thinking skills to my students. Inspiring students to become problem solvers is a top priority in my classroom. I have experience with the Understanding by Design curriculum framework. I enjoy finding new ways to integrate technology in to my lessons, and have attended several workshops and conferences on that topic. I believe in the concept of service learning, and encourage students to learn how to give back to their community.
I continually work on my own educational and personal growth as demonstrated by obtaining my Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership/Curriculum Director and my Master’s degree in Gifted and Talented Education, and holding leadership and mentoring positions such as National Elementary Honor Society advisor, Kiwanis International Builder’s club advisor, Lego Robotics coach, and math Olympiad coach, among others.
