International School of Myanmar
Elementary School
To Whom It May Concern
Reference for Kathryn Medley
I am the Elementary School Principal at the International School of Myanmar.(ISM) I am a former Principal of International Schools in China and New Zealand. This school has a student population of 520 with 27 classes ranging from Pre-Kindergarten 3 year olds to Grade 5. The school follows a U.S. standards based curriculum.
I have observed Kathryn in her capacity as grade 5 teacher this year. Kathryn is a very caring and committed person, both to the students, her team and the school.
She has liaised with all stakeholders throughout her time at ISM. She is approachable and reliable. She works hard at understanding the culture and its implications within the classroom.
Her planning and preparation is individually tailored to meet the learning needs of each child. She has a good rapport with the children and understands their needs, both academic and social. She develops learning programs that capture and hold the children’s attention. She utilizes 21st century teaching and learning skills.
Her classroom management strategies are very good. The children in her class are motivated and enthusiastic, and are aided in developing independence and a sense of responsibility for their learning and behavior. Students work individually and collaboratively, the learning is scaffolded and always culturally appropriate.
She has shown leadership in assessment and reporting review committee. She has listened to advice and implemented change where necessary. She has always been a positive contributor and where she sees concerns she is eager to find best fit solutions. She has undertaken professional development to improve her practice and shared her new learning with others.
She has been active in after school activities. She attends and becomes involved in all school functions and activities.
It has been a pleasure to work with Kathryn over the year. I am saddened that her career here at ISM was not longer, but family member’s health takes a higher priority. I would highly recommend her for any position she chooses to apply for. Should you wish to discuss Kathryn’s professional performance please contact me.
